Governance
Project Learn School is Philadelphia’s only cooperative K-8 school. Parents, faculty, and students run the school together; taking part in both the day-to-day and the long-term operation of our school in significant and meaningful ways.
Being part of a cooperative school means ownership. Parents, staff, and students are not only stakeholders, but also shareholders. We work together as a community and are invested in the decisions we make together.
Our organizational structure prioritizes the same values we rigorously promote in the classroom: equality, interdependence, and integrity. While most schools operate with a top down leadership structure where a small number hold the power to make decisions and effect change, there is no principal here because authority, like accountability, is shared in a collective and participatory way. At Project Learn School, our unique consensus based model guarantees that every member of our community, regardless of age, has a voice.
