Play

Play

Play begins in its simplest form with our youngest students spending a lot of time in the yard (recess), interacting with their peers. Students at this age have a variety of opportunities for structured and unstructured play throughout the day. Bi-weekly our youngest  students spend an entire day at Forest School exploring and playing in an off-site wooded setting.

As students age into upper elementary and Junior High, play shifts towards project-based learning and allowing students to build, manipulate, design, and create their own learning experiences.

Recess is offered twice a day, at the same time for all our students. All children are encouraged to play outside during this time. All games are “open” without regard to age at all times during breaks and lunch hour. The school does not allow competitive games in which children are eliminated and left to watch while others play.
